30th August – Resourceful Rainforests – 4-6.30 pm Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre
This CPD session aims to train teachers in the use of the excellent resources and facilities found in Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre and Cruickshank Botanic Garden. This will enable teachers to lead activities that increase their pupils’ awareness and experience of the natural world.
Teachers will explore the different types of rainforests, their location around the world and their distinct characteristics. Using microscopes, they will investigate the process of pollination and discover its importance for both local and global biodiversity.
This session also incorporates outdoor learning in the botanic gardens. Self-led visits can be booked following the CPD, within a specific timeframe.

8th November – Harsh Habitats – 4-6.30 pm – Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre

This session aims to train teachers in the use of the excellent resources found in the Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre and Zoology Museum. This will enable them to lead activities that increase the child’s awareness and experience of the natural world. Self-led visits can be booked following the CPD, but within a specific timeframe.
Through interactive, resource-based learning which develops the child’s observational and investigation skills they will explore how animals and plants are adapted to survive in different habitats around the World. The majority of the session utilises the handling collection and facilities at the ABC and some time will be spent in the adjoining Zoology Museum.

16th November – Versatile Vertebrates – 4-6.30pm – Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre

The CPD session aims to train teachers in the use of the excellent resources found in the Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre and Zoology Museum. This will enable them to lead activities that increase the child’s awareness and experience of the natural world. Self-led visits can be booked following the CPD, but within a specific timeframe.
Through interactive, resource-based learning which develops the child’s observational and investigation skills they will explore the classification of the animal kingdom. They will also have the opportunity to use microscopes to further examine characteristics of the different vertebrate groups. The majority of the session utilises the handling collection and facilities at the ABC and some time will be spent in the adjoining Zoology Museum.

23rd November – Night and Day in Nature – 4-6 pm – Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre

The CPD session aims to train teachers in the use of the excellent resources found in Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre handling collection and the Zoology Museum. This will enable teachers to lead activities that increase the child’s awareness and experience of the natural world, through interactive, resource-based learning which develops the child’s observational and investigation skills.
Teachers will investigate the impact of the earth’s daily rhythms on animals and learn how to use ‘hands on’ activities to explore this topic with their class. Various aspects of biodiversity will be covered, specifically how an animal’s behaviour and use of its sense organs have adapted to daily rhythms to increase the survival success of that animal
