We started our development of mental maths and mental fluency at our Numeracy Conference on Monday 19 September, where we welcomed Dr. Debbie Morgan (NCETM) and Professor Ruth Merttens (Hamilton Trust). We aim to create a set of principles around the effective teaching of mental maths and mental fluency for the city following on from this valuable input.
We have CPD opportunities available to look at the pedagogy and progression behind teaching mental maths in November.
Places for the individual day sessions (9am – 3pm) run by Amy Sinclair are available at: 2 November and 3 November. While there are two possible dates to choose from, this is a day course and you would only need to attend one of the dates.
We are also providing a meeting on the morning of Friday 4 November for Numeracy Coordinators, where we will be creating the principles for the effective teaching of mental maths and mental fluency. It would be best if you have attended the conference and either of the mental maths training dates prior to attending this meeting.
