Making Maths Count is a Scottish Government led programme which was announced in September 2015. The group’s final report was published on 12 September 2016 and the group will continue to meet to monitor the implementation of their 10 recommendations. The group is chaired by Director of Education in Glasgow City – Maureen McKenna and it can be viewed here.
The group focused upon three key areas from their findings:
• Transforming public attitudes to maths.
• Improving confidence and fluency in maths for children, young people, parents and all those who deliver maths education to raise attainment and achievement across learning.
• Promoting the value of maths as an essential skill for every career
There is a Making Maths Count blog which includes lots of examples of people talking about their job and the relevance and importance of mathematics, which can be viewed here.
We look forward to promoting the recommendations throughout our upcoming CPD and Numeracy Coordinator Meetings.
