5th September 2017 – Facilitating Science Investigations – 4-6 pm
This course will equip teachers with the knowledge and confidence to carry out scientific investigations in the classroom without tearing your hair out. It will cover common misconceptions in science; use of correct language; thinking deeper e.g. using Concept Cartoons.
We will explain the difference between an experiment and an investigation to be able to develop skills further.
Find out the difference between “accurate” and “reliable” and learn some straightforward ways of helping your pupils to carry out investigations.
We will also look at the ACC Skills Development framework and how it can be used to help pupils – and teachers!

21st November 2017 – Fun with Forces – 4 – 6 pm
Fun with Forces gives participants the knowledge and confidence to teach around the CfE area of forces at First and Second levels. We will cover; shape and motion, friction, air resistance, magnets, static electricity (electrostatic), gravity, floating and sinking. Participants will have the chance to get hands-on with activities that are simple to set up with easily accessible materials. CfE links, useful websites & resources, activity instructions and more will all be detailed in the handout provided during the session.

6th February 2018 – What Makes You You? – 4 -6 pm
Discover how to explore the CfE topic of inheritance in an accessible, inclusive and interactive way. This CPD will give you the background knowledge to teach the basics of genetics and inheritance as well as the chance to try out inexpensive, engaging activities to use at First and Second level. Meet the Reebops, a fantastical animal that provides a fun and simple way for introducing children to ideas of inherited characteristics. Activities introduced in this session are designed to be inclusive of all learners, avoiding the old adage of “compare yourself to your Mum and Dad”.
