Biodiversity CPD Opportunities

9th October 2018 – Outdoor Learning Skills

This CPD session aims to develop primary teachers’ confidence in teaching science outdoors. It will emphasize the benefits of outdoor learning and why it is important in general and the importance of viewing the outdoors as an integral and essential tool to teach science effectively, rather than seeing outdoor learning as an ‘add on’ in the sciences. We will provide some suggested activities that can be done in the school grounds or other outdoor areas to meet particular outcomes. A number of loan boxes will also be available on request to teachers who have completed the CPD with resources to help them teach the activities covered in the CPD. It will cover activities which are suitable for both first and second levels with potential for differentiation depending on the ability of the children being taught.

The CPD session will cover most of the outcomes from the Biodiversity and Interdependence strand of the experiences and outcomes in the sciences which have an outdoor element.

4 – 6.30 pm at Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre.
