This course is for Pupil Support Assistants who work in primary schools. It is about using the outdoors as a learning environment and covers a range of activities, mainly maths and literacy, which can be undertaken with groups of children outside. Participants will learn techniques to keep children engaged and how to support children. We will also consider the benefits of loose parts playwork and how this can revolutionise playtimes. It is a practical course and participants must come suitably prepared for working outside whatever the weather.
Participants will acquire:
– A range of open-ended and flexible activities to undertake with children outside
– Strategies for managing behaviour and other concerns about working outside with children
– Ideas for meeting children’s needs through learning outdoors
