Aberdeen Pupil Voice

The very successful Aberdeen Pupil Voice (APV) group is now into its third year and the first meeting of the year will be taking place on October 2nd. I have recently taken up the post of Development Officer for Global Citizenship and Pupil Voice and I am excited at the prospect of working with our city’s young people; providing them with further opportunities to have their views heard and be actively involved in decision-making processes.

Our first meeting will take place in Aberdeen’s Town House where the pupils will enjoy a range of activities and inputs from myself, Lewie Peterson (Shetland Council) and external agencies and partners. The day will culminate in a mock debate and a vote in the Council’s Debating Chambers. During the year, pupil representatives will be encouraged to participate in the Saltire Award scheme to recognise their efforts and achievements.

As part of my work for this year, I plan to pilot an Aberdeen Pupil Voice group with interested primary schools.  At this initial point, I think that it may work best in ASG clusters and I would be delighted to hear from any primary schools that may be interested in consulting and/or participating.

Furthermore, I am keen to give the Aberdeen Pupil Voice groups an identity and I will be in touch shortly with information about a competition to design a logo for the group(s). The winning entry will be chosen by our APV representatives and will be used on all future publications relating to the group as well as forming the cornerstone of the new Twitter and Facebook pages that will be launched shortly. (More details to follow.)
