We were recently invited to attend the ‘Children and Young People’s Regional Summit’ in Inverness. Pupils from Bridge of Don, Bucksburn and Northfield Academy attended the event.
The event was a collaboration between Scottish Government, Children in Scotland, Young Scot and the Scottish Youth Parliament. Around 100 children from schools and youth organisations across the north of Scotland came along to the first regional summit which had been coordinated along with an official Cabinet meeting and gave Ministers the opportunity to engage directly with children and young people to talk about educational attainment, participation, children’s rights and social justice.
The summit coincided with the travelling Cabinet Meetings and we were fortunate to be asked if we would like the opportunity for two of our young people to meet and walk with the First Minister to the Cabinet Meeting. This unique and memorable opportunity capped off the day perfectly and our young people were extremely positive about being able to participate in an event that valued their opinions and provided young people with a voice.
